Phoenix Food Tax is Reduced

Council members voted 8 to 1 to reduce the food tax 1% effective Jan 1, 2014. This is earlier than what was scheduled. Currently the tax is set at 2% of food purchases. This tax was pushed through without hearings by former Mayor Phil Gordon who is now out of office. The Maricopa County LP worked to eliminate the tax and is determined to fight any attempts by labor unions to revive this tax.
